When a person falls victim to sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts.
Most people know that chances for survival increase with early CPR. What most people do not know, is that for every minute that the patient is not defibrillated, chances of survival decreases by 10 percent.
Traditionally, defibrillators have been used by paramedics, nurses and physicians. Today, the technology exists to have affordable defibrillators available wherever people gather. The Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has put this technology in the hands of members of the public who have little or no medical training. At these public locations, on-site personnel can operate these defibrillators with minimal training.
